Under the Oak Glamping

Take Glamping to a whole new level at Under the Oak Glamping. Two rustic yet beautiful railway carriages await your arrival; Cynefin & Cartref. These two cosy hideaways started off life as rusty shells of old railway goods wagons. Now, they have been given new life and converted into luxurious escapes perfect for two. Both with wood fired hot tubs.

Cynefin is a very special Welsh word that perfectly matches the vision of owners, Lydia & Richard. There is no direct translation but it roughly means a sense of place, where you feel at one with nature and all your surroundings. And that is exactly what we hope you will feel at Under the Oak Glamping. These quirky & cool railway carriages are perfectly positioned to explore the Welsh Capital, Cardiff, the picturesque Brecon Beacons and the beautiful beaches of South Wales.

Inside Cynefin & Cartref

This gorgeous duo of railway carriages have the same amenities, but with different styles. Both ooze peace & tranquility, you just have to make the difficult choice of choosing which one to book. Each carriage is well insulated and houses a little wood burning stove, keeping you nice and toasty during the winter months or chilly spring nights. The compact kitchen areas are fully equipped with a fridge, hob, sink and all the pots and pans you’ll need to rustle up a simple delicious meal. And no need for midnight dashes to a separate toilet block here! Cynefin & Cartref both have stylish ensuite shower rooms.

One dog is welcome in each carriage so your four legged friends won’t have to be left behind during your stay at Under the Oak Glamping. The selection of additional delicious hampers on offer can make your stay even more luxurious. And don’t worry if you have forgotten to pack some essentials, there is a handy honesty shop on site too!

Outside

Both of the railway carriages at Under the Oak Glamping have private outdoor areas with amazing countryside views. Embrace alfresco eating and cook up a delicious meal on the tripod over the fire pit! Nothing tastes better than food freshly cooked over an open fire, trust us. Cynefin & Cartref each boast a sheltered wood fired hot tub. Expertly angled to make the most of the views over the valleys.

Nearby

Under the Oak Glamping is ideally located for exploring some of the best spots in Wales. Mountain bikers are spoilt for choice for woodland trails and mountain routes. Head on over to Mountain View Bike Park for an adrenaline fuelled morning. For the ramblers amongst us, challenge yourself with a hike up Pen y Fan or some of the Black Mountains. Why not try and find some hidden waterfalls along the way!

For the history lovers, we are sure you’re aware Wales is well known for its majestic castles. Caerphilly Castle is just a short drive away as well as Cardiff Castle, Castle Coch and Raglan Castle. Once you have finished exploring some of these impressive historic structures, you could visit the monastic ruins of Tintern Abbey.

There are plenty of beaches to visit nearby too. If a traditional seaside experience takes your fancy, candy floss & arcade games included, head on over to the famous Barry Island. Lovingly known for featuring in the popular tv series Gavin & Stacey. If you’d prefer somewhere more tranquil, Ogmore or Southerndown beaches are well worth a visit.

For some retail therapy, a thirty minute drive will get you into the centre of the busting city of Cardiff. St David’s Dewi Shopping Centre is the biggest shopping centre in Cardiff. But if more unique, independent shops are more your style, there are plenty of arcades to explore and pursue at your leisure. Cardiff Bay also offers boat trips, the Wales Millennium Centre and lots of restaurants with waterside views.

If cooking isn’t on the agenda, there are a few places to eat nearby including The Old Cottage, The Maenllwyd and Volare. Not forgetting the countless independent restaurants in Cardiff.
