Tucked away in a secretive spot, hidden away from the madding crowds, on a pretty 700 year old small holding. Shippon & The Wagon provide a rural idyll and an excellent base to discover the best picturesque fishing villages, sandy beaches and foodie hotspots in North Cornwall. Whether you’re celebrating a honeymoon, birthday or just wanting to have a romantic weekend away with one another, this pair of charming cottages is the perfect location.
Expect immaculate interiors, homely comforts and gorgeous traditional features in both cottages. The thick granite walls, vaulted and beamed ceilings and beautiful oak flooring remind us of the bygone era. Light, bright and full of character is the best way to describe the cottages. Both have a cosy kitchen area with a dining table for two in front of the fire. For the coffee lovers amongst us, you won’t be disappointed with the SMEG coffee machine. The snug seating area with a smart TV and sumptuous sofa is the best place to unwind after a busy day.
The beautiful bedrooms have modern en-suites and have been carefully designed to encourage deep sleep and ultimate relaxation. Soft towels, crisp bed linen, fluffy bath robes and luxurious toiletries are provided in both cottages so that you can experience a 5* stay.
Both cottages boast sunny private patios to the front with comfortable garden furniture. Cook up a magnificent al fresco feast on the BBQ or just enjoy soaking up some sun rays with a good book in one hand and a tipple in the other. Venture out into the grounds to discover the resident farm animals and tranquil countryside, there are seven acres to explore on site!
Shippon & The Wagon are just a short drive away from some of Cornwall’s most loved fishing villages including Padstow, Port Isaac, Boscastle and Fowey. Discover the dramatic coastlines with a walk on the famous South West Coastal Path or a scenic riverside walk on The Camel Trail. There are plenty of places to visit nearby too including the Eden Project, Tintagel Castle and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Due to the close proximity to the sea, there’s lots of opportunities for water activities. For the best view of the coastline, hire a kayak or paddleboard for an excursion from Port Gaverne. Or, enjoy a riveting rib ride from Padstow to spot basking sharks, dolphins and puffins.
North Cornwall is renowned for being a foodie haven and you don’t have to venture far to enjoy some local produce. The local pub, The White Hart at St Teath, is just a 25 minute walk away or a short drive away and the St Tudy Inn is just in the next village. Venture slightly further to sample fresh seafood from one of Rick Stein’s restaurants in Padstow or one of Nathan Outlaw’s bucket-list restaurants in Port Isaac – Outlaw’s New Road or Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen.
