Whether for an action packed holiday with friends, a cosy family escape, a pamper retreat or party, Peddler’s Den shape shifts to suit. An immaculate barn conversion in a splendid spot for exploring Yorkshire, this bunk house is in a class all of its own. With lovers of the great outdoors in mind, Peddler’s Den welcomes muddy bikes and even accommodates your horses by prior arrangement. Those of us who like an exhilarating challenge in the wild can return rosy-cheeked to top-notch treats and bubbling luxuries, read on…
Peddler’s Den is a clean, light and airy space where thought and care has gone into every detail. The ancestral solidity of the original stone barn and the charm of the adjoining granary have been preserved with minimal fuss and distraction. There is an authentic Yorkshire practicality about the design of each space, yet comfort and luxury in good measure make this a grand group getaway.
The generous space and sleeping areas downstairs can be booked for a family of four. A double bedroom with en suite opens onto a private courtyard, and a snug with a sofa bed sleeps two more. For large groups of up to fourteen, add the ten comfy beds in the lofty bunk room above, where exposed timbers are interspersed by sunlit skylights. Beds can make way for a dance floor for parties or a pop-up yoga studio should it take your fancy!
Handcrafted bespoke and original woodwork and a hearty wood burning stove downstairs create cosiness. Beanbags and a sumptuous super-sofa allow for everyone to settle in for an evening of games or chatter, and to eagerly lay plans for the next day of adventure.
The kitchen has everything you could possibly need to cater for your group, but Peddler’s Den can offer delicious breakfasts, cream teas and three course dinners, cooked up for you by a local chef using fresh local ingredients and delivered to order.
Take your morning coffee on the sunny terrace overlooking peaceful paddocks and the Vale of Pickering beyond. Put your feet up, catch up, or gaze up at the wide open skies. Fire up a barbecue in the evening or dress up for canapes and cocktails as the sun goes down. The hot tub is the perfect spot for collecting and reflecting, seating eight. Crack open the fizz and lower yourself into the bubbles, ahhh! Have the bottle close at hand, you may be there for some time… important to stay hydrated!
For those of you bringing ponies there are stables and even a horse shower. Muddy bikes can also be cleaned and stored securely, and there’s a drying room for other outdoor gear.
Taking in the spectacular scenery of the North York Moors and The Howardian Hills AONB is a must, followed by dinner at one of the many fantastic restaurants on the coast or historic village eateries inland.
Active families are well catered for with lots of options within easy reach. Go Ape aerial assault course, Forest Segways and Dalby Forest Cycle Hub are all ten minutes away, and Flamingo Land theme park and zoo is even closer. The inflatable assault course and paddleboards of North Yorkshire Waterpark is also just ten minutes by car, or the traditional fish and chips from Lifeboat Fish Bar in the seaside town of Scarborough won’t disappoint! A little further up the coast, picturesque Robin Hoods Bay even has a fish and chip festival every September, or if fine dining is more your thing, book a table at Wayfarer Bistro.
In the nearby village of Malton, there’s a host of tempting treats – Groovy Moo serves artisan gelato, Florian Poirot is a master patissier, The Rare Bird Gin Distillery offer a hands on experience at their Gin School and The New Malton pub restaurant, which features in the Michelin Guide.
